Leaders of CICCC and Officials from the UN to attend the 31st “the Summer of Harbin” Music Festival

      Executive Chairman and concurrently the Party Secretary of the China International Cultural Communication Center (CICCC) Long Yuxiang, Director of Division for Public Administration and Development Management of the UN Department of ECOSOC Affairs Qian Haiyan along with the Vice director of the General Assembly and ECOSOC Affairs Division, Department of General Assembly and Conference Management Zhang Saijin formed a six-person delegation carrying out a three-day-visiting from 5th to 7th August,to the city of Harbin, attending the 31st “the Summer of Harbin” Music Festival opening ceremonial event and the Power of Culture Forum, at the invitation of the Municipal Government of Harbin.

     Apart from specially invited guests like Executive Chairman of CICCC Long Yuxiang, Director Qian Haiyan, Vice director Zhang Saijin from the UN mentioned above, other senior governmental officials who were present at the opening ceremony including the Vice Chairman of the Committee of National People’s Political Consultative Conference, concurrently the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League Lin Wenyi, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Chinese Federation of Disabled Persons Wang Xinxian, Vice Minister of Culture Wang Wenzhang, Vice Minister of Environmental Protection Zhou Jian. During their visit in Harbin, the delegation was invited to talk by the local senior officials such as Lin Duo, Song Xibin and Zhang Lixin. Lin is now a member of the provincial Party standing committee, and serves as the Secretary of the municipal Party committee; Song is the Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party committee and Mayor of Harbin; Zhang is the Director of the Municipal Publicity Department. In the meeting, Executive Chairman Long Yuxiang expressed heartfelt gratitude for the hospitality offered by the municipal Party Committee and the government. He stated that the China International Cultural Communication Center would like to further enhance exchange and cooperation with Harbin in such fields as music and culture. As the window and platform of international communication, CICCC stands ready for Harbin to exploit and cooperate with. Harbin’s soft recourses in terms of music and culture could be largely promoted domestically and internationally thought further cooperation with CICCC; and in so doing, greater cultural industry development and prosperity would be accelerated and enhanced.

     Mayor Song Xibin and Director Zhang Lixin expressed their sincere welcome to the delegation in the meeting. They also announced their gratitude and appreciation towards the CICCC and the UN Department of ECOSCO Affairs for their long time support to Harbin’s cultural development. They went on to declare that the Party committee and the government of Harbin would spare no effort to further improve international communications so that to make continuous advancement in Harbin’s international cultural strength and competitiveness.

     It is reported that “the Summer of Harbin”, “the Spring of Shanghai”, together with “Yangcheng Music Flower Show” are regarded as Three Chinese Music Festivals. The first “Summer of Harbin” was held at the Harbin Youth Palace on 5th August in 1961. This year marked the 31st anniversary of the musical event, which was most noted for its large scale, high standard of music, and greater participation of the citizens as well. The festival served successfully as a bridge between the professional and the amateur, the refined music and the popular, the indoor performance and the outdoor, the Chinese and the western, the north and the south, displayed comprehensively its intention of globalization, high artistic standard and massive participation.

     Advocated by Executive Chairman Long Yuxiang and supported by Director Qian Haiyan, the United Nations awarded Harbin an honorable title “City of Music” in 2010.
